Cherokee Print League Fifth Annual Holiday Sale

Cherokee Print League is a collection of businesses dedicated to the art scene on Cherokee and in Saint Louis.  Cherokee Print League, a vital contributor to the blossoming art scene in the South City/South Grand area will be hosting the fifth annual holiday print sale.  The CPL Holiday Sale is one of the largest print sales in the Midwest, showcasing local and regional artists whose work includes printmaking, letterpress, screen printing, and printed fabrics, as well as the ever-evolving creative energy that defines Cherokee Street.  Art demonstrations, customized printing, on-site framing, mobile print and food trucks will also be featured. The event takes place on Saturday, December 1st, 10:00AM – 6:00PM and provides holiday shoppers with a unique way to complete their shopping lists, supporting both handmade artists and the local economy.

Some of the unique activities planned at the numerous print shops and galleries along Cherokee Street include tours, demonstrations, and custom items printed on the spot. Galleries will host several of the artists whose work is exhibited. Maps will be provided at each participating location.

For the first time ever, the CPL Holiday Sale will hold a Preview Party on Friday night, November 30th, 7 – 10pm.  The Preview Party will showcase selected works by CPL Holiday Sale vendors, including a mini-retrospective by Firecracker Press. Local Art critic and poet, Jessica Baran will give a “State of the Street” address, hitting on the importance of printmaking in the digital age and Cherokee Street as a pillar of the St. Louis art scene. The Preview Party will be held at 3407 California Ave (just south of Cherokee St), beer provided by Schlafly, music to be announced.

This year’s commemorative ,hand-printed passports will provide a map of all venues, information on participating artists and discounts to Cherokee restaurants. Complimentary totes will also be available to shoppers.

Venues include St. Louis Curio Shoppe, Paper Boat Studios, Flowers to the People, Aisle 1 Gallery, STyLehouse, Foam Coffee & Beer, Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts, The Firecracker Press, Apop Records, Drew Henry Salon, Scarlett Garnet, The Community Arts Movement Project (CAMP), High Spektical, [Blank] Space, Loopie’s Market and Tucci Events.

Come enjoy the music, antiques, books, great food, and a variety of art galleries, print shops, and unique venues that make Cherokee Street one of the most interesting urban corridors in the Midwest.  The perfect place to do your holiday shopping!

CALL FOR BUTTON DESIGN: DUE 11/20/2012

We will be creating limited addition Cherokee Street buttons for the CPL Friday Night Preview Party.  ButtonMakers , a new business here on Cherokee Street will be opening in January and have donated their AWESOME services to CPL.  We will be creating a set of three 1 1/2 inch buttons to hand out to the attendants of the Friday Night Preview Party.  We are asking all participating artists to create a Cherokee Street themed design for the buttons- if you want to/ if you have the timeyou can submit as many designs as you would like- or none.  CPL will pick our favorite three for the set.

Requirements for buttons:

  • **SIZE: 1 1/2 inch
  • **1/2inch bleed around the diameter of the button
  • Graphics have to be round
  • Print quality/ high res designs ONLY
  •  Cherokee Street themed design ONLY
  • Email design to cherokeeprintleague@gmail.com by 5pm Tuesday November 20th
